A chocolate bar sold in Washington State is being recalled after a customer suffered an allergic reaction. Chuao Chocolatier is voluntarily recalling one lot of its Potato Chip mini chocolate bar because some packages may contain undeclared hazelnuts, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall only applies to the 0.39-ounce bar with lot code 4022. The UPC code is 872629006615, and the Best By date is February 22, 2025.
The agency said anyone with a severe allergy or sensitivity to hazelnuts could be at risk of "serious or life-threatening" reactions if they consume this product. There's a report of a customer experiencing a mild allergic reaction to this product. Officials urge consumers at risk to avoid eating this candy bar and throw it away.
"The recall was initiated after it was discovered hazelnuts were inadvertently added to the product during manufacturing and the lot produced was distributed in packaging that does not reveal the presence of hazelnuts," officials wrote. "Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by cross contamination on a piece of shared equipment."
According to the FDA, the packaging label does mention the chocolate was "manufactured in a facility that uses tree nuts and wheat on shared equipment."
The recalled candy bars were sold nationwide, except in Hawaii and Arkansas, at retail stores and online in the United States. No other Chuao Chocolatier products were affected by the recall.
